U.S. Trademark law update at American Intellectual Property Law Association Spring event

The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) is holding its 2021 Annual Spring Meeting virtually on May 10 thru 14, 2021.  The focus is on master classes designed to enhance various IP practice skills.

The Program Agenda may be found here.

Topics of interest include:

  • A combined trademark and copyright law update with moderator Jeffrey Samuels, former Assistant Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks of the USPTO and Professor Emeritus at the University of Akron School of Law;
  • How to use trademarks and other forms of IP to protect trade secrets
  • IP Protection in a work from home world
  • Litigating IP Cases after COVID, from depositions to trial

There is also an ethics session entitled Civility, Professionalism, and Mental Health in Difficult Times.   Like many professional legal associations, AIPLA’s interest in highlighting this important professional health and wellness topic is commendable.

AIPLA also makes available several practice resources to its members.  These include sample agreements for trademark transactions, including trademark license and cobranding agreements.  Members of AIPLA are further encouraged to submit articles for consideration to its digital publication Innovate.

CLE credits will be available to attendees, with credit amounts to vary pursuant to various state bar rules.
